Collaging the archive: Black Jumbo’s then and now In-Person
Location: Africana Center
In this workshop, BFA student Julie Francois shares her creative practice for working with personal and archival photographs. Using images of Black Jumbo’s found in Tuft’s Digital Archives, Julie will demo strategies participants can use to help bring to the surface observations through layering, color, shapes, and embellishment with an opportunity for experimentation and play. The workshop will finish with participants creating a collaborative collage and reflecting on the themes they see in the final work. This workshop intentionally welcomes Black Jumbo’s to participate for an opportunity to see how the archive constructs the Black student experience.
